How we evaluate

We don't look for perfect products.

We look for better choices.

Sustainability is rarely black or white. Horsewell recognises that every product has advantages and limitations. The purpose of the evaluation is therefore not to create an artificial sustainability score, but to look critically at the most relevant aspects of each product and be transparent about what we know.

01

HORSE

Is this genuinely a good choice for the horse?

We look at whether the product has a clear purpose, whether it is appropriate for horses and whether it genuinely adds value.

  • safety and suitability for horses
  • alignment with natural horse needs
  • ingredients or materials
  • evidence supporting the product's purpose or claims
  • whether the product encourages unnecessary consumption

The key question is

Would this genuinely benefit the horse?

02

PLANET

Has thought been given to its impact on the planet?

We consider the environmental aspects that are relevant to each product, rather than expecting every product to be perfect.

  • materials and ingredients
  • origin and sourcing
  • production
  • packaging
  • durability and lifespan
  • reusability, repairability or end-of-life

We use language such as "a better choice" rather than claiming that a product is completely "sustainable".

03

TRANSPARENCY

Can we understand what we are actually buying?

Transparency is at the heart of Horsewell. We look for clear and reliable information about:

  • ingredients and materials
  • origin
  • production
  • relevant certifications
  • product claims and evidence
  • sustainability claims

If information is unavailable, we don't hide it. We tell you what we know — and what we don't.

No artificial sustainability score

Horsewell is not trying to create the illusion that sustainability can always be reduced to a number. Instead, the evaluation should help customers understand why Horsewell chose a product and what considerations went into that choice.

All products ultimately offered on Horsewell are products that Horsewell genuinely stands behind. We do not use customer-facing categories such as "Approved", "With Reservations" or "Not for Horsewell". Those remain internal evaluation concepts only.

Independence

We are not paid by manufacturers to approve products or give positive evaluations. Our aim is to make thoughtful, independent choices and give customers the information they need to make better purchasing decisions.

Think before you buy.

Choose better.
